Serving those who served our country.

If you are a Veteran, please contact your nearest Veteran’s Representative for information on health care opportunities at VA Services, before making a final decision on our Medicare programs.

Thank you for your service.

Veterans can earn health care three ways. Always seek advice from your VA Representative to see what you qualify for.  When turning 65, ask them if you need to sign up for Original Medicare A & B in order to remain eligible for your VA health care, Tricare, or CHAMPVA.

  1. VA Health Care VA health care is not insurance.  It is a network of hospitals, clinics, and doctors a veteran can use.  Veterans must qualify for VA health care; qualifying is now based on income and service-connected disability. To see if you qualify, contact VA Health Care.

  2. Tricare – For those who were career military, generally serving 20 years or more, and their spouse and dependents. When you turn 65, Tricare becomes Tricare For Life (TFL). To see if you qualify, contact Tricare.

  3. CHAMPVA – For veterans permanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected condition, or to spouse and dependents of veteran who died of a service-connected disability.  To see if you qualify, contact CHAMPVA.

Is a Medicare Supplement (MS), Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) Plan, or Prescription Drug Plan (PDP), Right for You?

Other than Original Medicare A&B, we do not recommend adding extra plans for Tricare or CHAMPVA enrollees.  There is nothing available that is better than what you already have.  Enrolling in MAPD and PDP would create networks and copays that you currently do not have.  It would simply not be worth any extra benefit you might gain.

Because VA health care is not insurance, a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) plan at age 65 may work fine with your health care benefit.  A MAPD may help with second opinions, specialists, Rx formulary options, access to more providers, help with ER visits, extras offered by the plan, and potential savings opportunities.
